Energy Management

Executive Summary

In 2010, the KC City Manager selected Talisen’s Enterprise Sustainability Platform (ESP) as the measurement and verification standard to manage and monitor all energy projects. Additionally, the City saw the opportunity to improve operational costs by automating the management of labor, maintenance and material planning. Kansas City implemented ARCHIBUS’ Integrated Workplace Management System to drive savings across the City’s facility operations.

Project Overview

The initial project lasted over two years as the City worked with the Controls Vendor to bring the newly installed/upgraded systems online. The project continues to add additional buildings as the City continues moving towards its vision of becoming a National Leader in sustainability.

Several findings were identified as the data was collected and analyzed:

  • The City realized over $350,000 in annual savings once it input its lease data into the ESP for tracking and collecting rent.
  • The interval data from City Hall showed the City’s operational approach in cycling steam throughout the day caused an unnecessary spike in the “demand” of the steam.
  • The City installed LED lighting along with wind and solar electricity generation in one of the garages saving over $48,000 a year. This energy savings was tracked and measured on the ESP.
  • Through operational changes brought about with ESP analytics, the City was able to reduce electricity consumption at the
Health Department by 27% or $101,976 a year.
